We discuss Port Vale’s shock FA Cup victory over Sunderland, with the League One outfit booking their place in the quarter-final with a trip to Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Southampton also progressed through to the next round following their 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, while Wrexham narrowly missed out on making it through after taking Chelsea to extra time, which ended in a 4-2 defeat.

In the Championship, Oxford United claimed a huge 3-1 win at Preston to move within four points of safety after Leicester City and West Brom failed to win, while Millwall and Middlesbrough also secured important away victories.

Elsewhere…

Elsewhere, in League One, Kevin Nolan’s tenure at Northampton Town has come to an end, with a run of just one win in 16 league outings.

In the battle of the top two, it was Lincoln City who emerged triumphant with a 2-0 win over Cardiff City, leapfrogging the Bluebirds into first place.

Finally, in League Two, Tranmere Rovers have appointed former Fleetwood Town boss Pete Wild following the departure of Andy Crosby.

The Rovers are seven points clear of the relegation places, but have only picked up three points in their last 12 fixtures.

Meanwhile, Notts County picked up an important 2-1 win away at Walsall to maintain their promotion hopes.
