In this week’s edition of The Football League Paper Podcast, Matt Badcock is joined by Football League Paper Chief Writer Chris Dunlavy and John Lyons, Football League Paper Editor, to talk through all the latest in the EFL.

We discuss the proposed plans to expand the EFL play-offs from four to six teams next season, with clubs casting their votes on Thursday to decide whether they approve.

Matt Taylor returns to Exeter City on an interim basis until the end of the season. Taylor spent four years in charge of the Grecians from 2018, guiding them to League One before departing for Rotherham United.

Elsewhere…

Elsewhere in the EFL, West Brom and Leicester City’s survival hopes took another hit after defeats to Oxford City and Norwich City, respectively.

Southampton’s resurgence under Tonda Eckert continues following their 3-1 win over relegated Sheffield Wednesday.

The Saints have picked up 20 points from their last eight fixtures, and are now just four points off the top six.

In League One, league leaders Cardiff City and second-placed Lincoln City both picked up victories in their bid for the title.

The two sides are separated by just one point, and it’s shaping up to be a mouthwatering clash when the Imps travel to the Cardiff City Stadium for the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

Finally, we look ahead to this weekend’s FA Cup action, with several EFL sides aiming to book their spot in the quarter-finals next month.
