Amoo joins to become Cambridge United’s first summer signing

The 26-year-old, who came through the ranks at Liverpool, arrives from Partick Thistle, where he made 71 appearances over two seasons.

United have bolstered their ranks ahead of next season with the signing of Partick Thistle winger David Amoo.

The 26-year-old, who came through the ranks at Liverpool, made 71 appearances for The Jags over two seasons, and helped them finish sixth in the SPL this season before being released when the campaign reached its climax.

Amoo has experience in the having had spells on loan at Hull and , before permanent moves to and Tranmere were followed by a successful time at , where he made over 60 appearances and scored 15 goals.

After signing for this morning, the pacy winger told the club’s official website: “When I heard about the interest from , I jumped at it with open arms. It’s a challenge that I’m really excited about.

“I’ve played at League One and level for a large part of my career, so I’m looking forward to moving back to and showing my stuff here.

“I know how competitive this level is with a lot of games to be played, so I want to chip in with as much as I can to help the team.

“They finished just outside the play-offs last season and it’s clear there is a strong group of talented players, who I am keen to get to work with.”

Amoo is United’s first signing this summer, and their first after the restructuring at the club that altered Shaun Derry’s role at the club to head coach, and put head of operations Ben Strang in charge of recruitment.

Derry is happy to have added depth to his squad, and said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of David and look forward to welcoming him into the group.

“We wanted to bring a different type of player into the squad and David certainly possesses those different qualities. I’m sure our fans will enjoy watching him when the new season arrives.”
