AS YOUNG men, Andy Carroll and Jamie Vardy were cut from similar cloth. Hard drinkers. Late nights. Brushes with the law.
But whilst Vardy was whippet thin and practically immune to the side effects of excess, Carroll’s hulking physique betrayed him.
Niggle after niggle. Injury after injury. Every one leeching away a little more of the power and confidence that, all too briefly, hinted at a striker of immense potential.
Carroll, now a dad of four, cleaned up his act a long time ago.
