AFTER Blackburn Rovers had beaten Preston to go fourth in the Championship last weekend, Tony Mowbray was asked about his desire to retain the club’s star players in January.
“It’s not about me,” said the 58-year-old. “It’s about growing the club. I’m just the guy who stands on the touchline and people tell me that I’m rubbish, that I don’t know what I’m doing and that I have to go.”
It was a throwaway line from one of English football’s most curmudgeonly characters - but it was also true.
