Colin Doyle ruled out until the new year

Blackpool goalkeeper Colin Doyle will not play until the new year after he sustained ankle ligament damage during the Seasiders’ defeat to Barnet in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Doyle’s form this season has been one positive in what has been another difficult season for Blackpool fans.

Manager Neil McDonald told the club’s official website, “He’s done a couple of ligaments in his ankle and that’s a big blow for us because Colin’s been exceptional so far this season

“We don’t really want to put a date on it, we want to see how the recovery comes.

“He’s already had one bad injury with his shoulder but luckily he didn’t have to have an operation for that. He’s come back really strong and this is very, very unfortunate for him.”

In a further blow for Neil McDonald’s side, backup goalkeeper Kyle Letheren came off with an injury in Tuesday’s loss to Wigan in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

This has left youth player Myles Boney as Blackpool’s only fit keeper and McDonald told reporters that he will try and bring in a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal for Saturday’s game against Doncaster at Bloomfield Road.

“We’ll try as we can’t expect a 17-year-old to be in goal from the start”, McDonald told reporters.
