FA CUP THIRD ROUND
By John Lyons
ACCRINGTON Stanley can’t wait to take on Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup next month – and they’re also cashing in with live television coverage.
Stanley’s glamour third round tie has been earmarked for Saturday, January 11 at 12.15pm and will be screened on ITV1.
“I am thrilled to bits for everyone involved,” said owner Andy Holt, who plans to step down as chairman towards the end of next year.
“A lot of hard work has gone in this season just to get to the third round and to get our rewards is fantastic – this is the best draw we could have hoped for.
“It’s great for the team, the fans, and the whole community.”
Coyle: ‘I was shaking!’
Midfielder Liam Coyle, who is a Liverpool supporter, told the club website: “I was watching the draw and Liverpool came out, and I was thinking, ‘come on 51′, and then when it was Accrington, I was shaking!
“I jumped up off the couch, and we were all ringing and texting each other – It’s a dream come true, absolutely buzzing.”
Fellow League Two side Salford and Championship outfit Millwall are the other EFL sides to have been selected for live coverage.
Cup clashes chosen for TV
The Class of ’92-backed Ammies face a daunting trip to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The tie is also scheduled for January 11, at 5.45pm on BBC One.
Millwall round things off when they host Dagenham & Redbridge – surprise conquerors of AFC Wimbledon last weekend – on Monday, January 13.
The match has been pencilled in for 7.30pm on ITV4.
There are also three televised ties which do not feature EFL clubs.
The all-Premier League tie between Aston Villa and West Ham gets the ball rolling on Friday, January 10 (8pm on ITV1).
On Sunday, January 12, National League Tamworth host Tottenham (12.30pm on ITV1) and Arsenal entertain holders Manchester United (3pm on BBC One).
Tasty ties
Each of the sides involved in the main live broadcast selections will receive £85,000.
Further broadcast selections and the full Emirates FA Cup third round schedule will be announced in due course.
There are also a number of other tasty ties involving EFL sides.
Morecambe go to Chelsea, Bromley visit Newcastle and Harrogate Town make the short trip to Leeds.
Everton full-back Ashley Young, 39, could face his 18-year-old son Tyler after the Toffees drew Peterborough at home.
