Daggers call on Still to refine their season

Dagenham & Redbridge have made John Still their manager for a third time to succeed Wayne Burnett, who was sacked before Christmas.

The 65-year-old was previously in charge of the club from 1992-1994 and 2003-2013, guiding the Daggers to promotion from the Conference to the League in 2007 as champions. A feat Still would also accomplish with Town, whom he left for in 2013.

His return to Victoria Road comes at a time when Dagenham & Redbridge are in the relegation zone with half the season gone, and a three-way battle between the Daggers, York and looks set to decide who will be playing Conference football next season.

Still told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted. The club has been important to me since I was 15-years-old. I’ve spent a lot of time here as a supporter, player and manager. We’re in a difficult position so it’s really important we can try and do some things that can keep us in the .

“It doesn’t feel weird to be back here to be honest. There’s no real changes. I’ve come back and it’s like putting on an old pair of slippers, they just fitted back in really. The staff and people around the ground are similar. There is no real settling in period now. It’s just a case of getting to know the players and trying to get results that are much needed.”

Chairman David Bennett said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have John back, in the situation that we find ourselves in, I truly believe that he is the right man to turn things around.”

Still’s first game back in charge is an away trip to on Saturday.
