The first round draw of the currently unsponsored EFL League Cup has been made and will see Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope make a homecoming return to old club Paul Trollope.
The former Gas boss won promotion via the League Two play-offs at Wembley in 2008 at the young age of 38, taking charge of 253 matches for the blue and white side of Bristol.
The draw pits National League play-off winners Grimsby Town against Nigel Pearson’s Derby County, with the Rams handed a home advantage in a competition they exited at the first chance last season by losing to Portsmouth 2-1.
Five-time League Cup winners Aston Villa also face League Two opposition, adding a trip to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town as their second match back in the Football League after finding out they will open their Championship season against Sheffield Wednesday today.
All ties to be played week commencing 8 August.
