The Greatest Moments in Football

The beautiful game has certainly seen its share of heart-pumping moments over the years. Goals that shouldn’t be possible, a win that no one saw coming and even moments of pure divinity. It’s what makes our game such a pleasure to watch and keeps us on the edge of our seats.

If you’re looking for a little slice of the past, a trip down memory lane to lift your spirits, we’ve got the pick of the crop to give you the warm and fuzzies. While you’re at it, you could take a break from life and put a little extra pocket money in your hand with the best fast payout casino, found here. It’s a great way to kill time between matches and all from the comfort of home.

Without further ado, our pick of the best of the best in all things football.

Goal of the Century

At the 1986 World Cup, there was one team that stood out as having the entire package, the clear favourites to win. Not only did their team have every position covered to perfection, having the greatest player of all time certainly helped. Argentina’s Maradona will always be known as one of the greatest of all time, and although he crushed the hearts of English fans, he certainly proved his value.

His second of the match may not have sparked as much controversy as the first, this time choosing to use his feet rather than his hand, but it is pure genius. Receiving the ball in his own half, he spins, darts and glides through the defending attempts of four of England’s best to casually slot the goal wide of the keeper.

There have been some magical goals over the years, but this will be known as the Goal of the Century for years to come.

A Nation of Giant Killers – 1966

Whilst the ‘66 World Cup will only ever be remembered for one thing by the English, it was the minnows that produced one of the finest World Cup upsets ever. North Korea came to England without a hope and left as the adopted sons of the home of football.

Their guts and determination shown to oust the Italians from the competition, whom were a team packed with talent in all positions, was awe-inspiring. Not only did it show what underdogs can do, but it shed light on the otherwise unknown people of North Korea. These were regular players who laughed at a joke, had personality plus and shared a true love for the game. They may not have gone on to win any silverware but they won many hearts.

The Greatest Turnaround Season

Sticking to underdogs, and why wouldn’t we mention the 2015/16 EPL season. For a team that was only in their second season in the top league, narrowly missing relegation in their first, to pull off the unthinkable is our favourite moment.

Starting the season at 5000:1 odds with the bookies, Leicester City toppled giants, overcame adversary and pulled off the most memorable season this century. In their 111th season as a club, they made history and took home the cup proving that it isn’t always your bank balance that wins the silverware.

Miracle of Istanbul

The Champions League just may be the greatest league in football, and it’s sure produced some incredible moments. Whether you’re a Liverpool fan or not, the final in 2005 still makes our list and goes down as the greatest final in history.

The underdogs for the game not only fell behind in just the first minute of the game but found themselves a mountain to climb at halftime, being 3-0 down. But in one of the most exciting 6 minutes of football we have ever seen, the lead was decimated, and even extra time could not find a winner.

When Liverpool keeper, Dudek, saved Shevchenko’s penalty attempt to become champions, it topped off not just a great year for the scousers, but one of the best games of footy ever played.

Smaller Canadian leagues are finding new audiences through digital sports coverage

Not long ago, many smaller football leagues in Canada barely reached audiences outside their own cities. Unless supporters were attending matches or actively searching for coverage, it could be difficult to follow clubs consistently from abroad. That is no longer really the case. Livestreams, supporter-run pages and short-form clips now...

Football Fashion Is Taking Over Streetwear

Boots used to be simple. Black leather, metal studs, maybe a splash of colour if a player was feeling bold. Pele wore plain white Pumas in 1970. Maradona played in generic black boots for most of his career. These days, football boots are something entirely different. They are status symbols,...

The Mathematics of Roulette: What the House Edge Really Means

Roulette is, in mathematical terms, one of the most transparent games in any casino. The rules are simple, the outcomes are clearly defined, and the house’s advantage is built into the wheel’s design in a way that is straightforward to calculate and impossible to overcome through any betting strategy. There...
