Lloyd Jones, Charlton’s 30-year-old centre-back, said recently that he’d had two football careers.
The first began in 2011 when, aged just 15, he was plucked from Plymouth’s academy by Liverpool.
Widely regarded as one of the most promising English defenders in his age group, Jones was compared to everyone from Alan Hansen to Vincent Kompany but never got anywhere near Jurgen Klopp’s first team.
