Russell Slade named as new Coventry manager

Coventry have named former Charlton and Cardiff boss Russell Slade as their new manager.

Coventry have been on the hunt for a permanent manager ever since Tony Mowbray resigned in September after 18 months in charge at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blues are currently languishing in 23rd place in League One after interim manager Mark Venus, who will now go back to his initial role as technical director, won just four of his 12 games in charge.

However, Slade is a man with enough valuable football league experience to guide the midlands club to safety, and Venus told the club website: “We are delighted to welcome Russell Slade as the Club’s new manager.

“We’re pleased to have secured the services of a highly-rated manager who has experience both at League One level and higher.”

Slade will be well aware of the job he now has on his hands, and it will certainly be a tough task for the manager who has also had spells at Leyton Orient and Brighton.

He arrives at the club amidst a swarm of protests from Coventry fans angry at their owners, the SISU hedge fund, but Venus is confident the new manager will hold his own.

“Russell has been at football clubs in challenging circumstances before and has experience of steering them through to safety.” Venus said.

“The Club believe that Russell is the right man to take Coventry City forward and hope that everyone will give him their full support.”
