Duffy signs for Notts one month after Eastleigh move

Notts County have signed Eastleigh defender Richard Duffy just one month after he moved to the Hampshire side.

Upon his release from Port Vale in May, Duffy signed for National League big spenders Eastleigh on a two-year deal. But with an EFL club interested, the former Wales international admitted to wanting a return.

“When they gave me a call and said would you want to come, there was only one answer really,” Duffy said in a brief statement published by County’s website.

“I hope to bring a bit of experience and leadership,” said the defender, who made over a century of appearances for both Exeter City and Port Vale.

Eastleigh boss Andy Todd, former player for Blackburn and Bolton said: “Whilst I am clearly disappointed that Richard will not be joining my squad for the 2016-17 campaign, it is vital that the whole team are here in soul as well as body.

“I felt it was best that we allowed Richard to go elsewhere,” Todd added, to bring to an end Duffy’s 30-day stay.

It was with the Valiants where Duffy added a standout achievement on his CV, much to new Magpies boss John Sheridan‘s remit, when he won promotion from League Two under the management of Micky Adams in 2013.

Duffy has won 13 caps for Euro 2016 flyers Wales – the last cap handed to him in 2008 – and becomes Notts County’s fourth signing of the month, following Adam Collin, Matt Tootle and Alex Rodman in moving to Meadow Lane.
