The 39-year-old has made a return to management after leaving Premier League side Swansea in December.

Aitor Karanka, Boro, EFL, Garry Monk, Gibson, Karanka, Leeds United, LUFC, Middlesbrough, Monk, MOT, SkyBet Championship, Steve Gibson

have moved to bring in former boss Garry as their new manager.

Monk replaces who left the Yorkshire club on Tuesday after holding the managerial role for just seven months.

The new Leeds’ boss has never managed in the before but won plenty of plaudits during his time in charge of Swansea.

As manager of the Welsh club Monk helped Swansea avoid relegation from the Premiership in his first season in charge before guiding them to an eight placed finish the following year.

The 37-year-old told Leeds’ official club website, “It feels great to be here. I’m extremely honoured to join Club – we all know the history of the club and the standing it has in English football.

“I feel really honoured to be here and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“The passion of the fans, the history and the ambition of the owner all ties in with what I wanted to do.

“I want to be challenged and really get my teeth into a big project. That was the underlying factor throughout the whole process and that’s the reason why I’m here today.

“This is definitely the right challenge for me and I’m really happy to be here.”

Monk will certainly been in for a tough challenge as he has become the seventh manager to take charge of Leeds since Italian bought the club in 2014.
