Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Knockaert

Nottingham Forest trigger extension on Anthony Knockaert’s loan

Nottingham Forest have triggered a loan extension that will see Anthony Knockaert remain at the City Ground for the rest of the season.

The former Leicester and Brighton winger has played 16 times for Forest this season, so far contributing just one goal and one assist, with the club languishing in the lower reaches of the Championship table.

“He’s certainly given us something,” boss Chris Hughton told BBC Radio Nottingham.

“And I think over the period of time, he’s started to have more influence.”

Forest’s poor form comes off the back of an astonishing collapse on the final day of last season – a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Stoke City. This saw the club pipped to a play-off place by Swansea City.

The defeat spilt over into the current season with former manager Sabri Lamouchi remaining in charge and losing the first five games of the season, leading to his sacking on the 6 October.

Newly-appointed manager Chris Hughton forged a successful relationship with Knockaert during the 2016/17 season with Brighton, where the French winger had a season to remember, scoring 15 goals and laying on eight assists to aid promotion to the top flight.
