Time for rulers to put fat cats in place

Positive discussions are all well and good but isn’t it time the government stepped in and held the Premier League to account?
It is almost nine months since Boris Johnson responded to the Crouch report by recommending an independent regulator for football and warned that, unless a fairer distribution of income was agreed, legislative action was inevitable.

Nothing has happened since. Liz Truss, Johnson’s short-lived successor, kicked the plans into the long grass. Rishi Sunak dug them out. Soon, a white paper will be released.
