Charlton fans stage mass protest against Duchatelet

fans came out in huge numbers after Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forrest to protest against the club’s current ownership.

The Charlton faithful have become increasingly angry about problems both on and off the pitch in recent weeks.

Since owner took over at The Valley two years ago he has dismissed four managers including club legend Chris Powell.

In addition to this the current interim manager Karel Fraeye has now been in charge for 12 games and has a win ratio of just 16%, which has left the struggling in 23rd place in the .

The protesting fans are also claiming that the club is rapidly losing its once proud identity.

Rick Everitt, who is the editor of fanzine Voice of the Valley, organised Saturday’s demonstrations.

He stated, “The club we have loved is crumbling away before our eyes.

“It is not bad luck or injuries that are killing Charlton, or even under-investment. It is chronic bad management under a pitifully inexperienced and under-qualified head coach and chief executive.”

The protests were spurred on by last week’s that former Chief Executive Peter Varney may be interested in a possible takeover of the club.

Duchatelet was previously owner of Standard Liege but sold the club in June last year following large-scale protests from Liege fans.
