Notts County sack Moniz

Notts County have sacked manager Ricardo Moniz after eight wins in 23 league matches.

The dutchman filled the void left by Shaun Derry in April 2015 and was unable to prevent the Magpies from relegation to League Two. County have also parted company with backroom staff members Dave Kevan and Dean Yates.

Recent form hasn’t seen Notts County escape the clutches of mid-table with the club languishing in 15th place, and chairman Ray Trew said he was hoping to bring success back to Meadow Lane after making the ‘difficult’ decision to replace the former Hamburg manager.

“I made it clear when appointing Ricardo that I wanted someone who would bring an exciting, attacking brand of football to Meadow Lane and I think it would be fair to say that in part he has done this, with some eye-catching attacking play on show at times this season,” said Trew.

“However, whilst showing considerable flair at times, I feel that we have lacked a level of discipline and organisation in our defensive play throughout the season which has undermined our efforts and our right to play this free-flowing attacking style.

“By this stage of the season I felt that we needed to be seeing more consistent performances, which would naturally translate into better results and we know all too well how much of a sand trap this division can be – the longer we linger and struggle, the more difficult it will be to get out,” Trew warned.

As their search for a new manager gets underway the club have placed academy manager  Mick Halsall and U21 coach Richard Dryden in charge of the first-team matters.
