Tony Watt joins Cardiff on loan

Cardiff have brought in Charlton striker Tony Watt on loan until January, with a few to a permanent deal.

The former Celtic man has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for the South London club since joining from Standard Liege in January.

Watt was considered to be one of Charlton’s key players at the beginning of the season but has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks and was not named in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Birmingham.

The sale of Watt does potentially leave Charlton a little short of striking options with Reza Ghoochannejhad, Simon Makienok, Ricardo Vaz Te and youth player Ademola Lookman their only recognized forward players.

Although the loan window does not close until Wednesday it may be unlikely that Charlton will draft in a replacement as the club’s board announced in September that they were already exceeding their wage budget.

Charlton are currently sitting in 21st place in the Championship and face Ipswich Town at the Valley on Saturday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
