Tyson and Coppinger pick up injuries in Blades defeat

Doncaster’s 3-2 loss to Sheffield United rankled even more with Nathan Tyson and James Coppinger substituted in the second-half with knee injuries.

Rovers went into the match with two games in hand over a number of play-off rivals above them, but defeat to their South Yorkshire neighbours leaves them ten points off Chesterfield in 6th.

Chasing the game after going behind at 3-2 due to a Steven Davies strike, Rovers manager Paul Dickov revealed he instructed the injured duo to carry on, “Tyson and Coppinger picked up nasty injuries and we tried to keep them on the pitch for as long as we could because they were causing them problems,” Dickov said. “But we had to take them off unfortunately.

Coppinger had taken a knock shortly before half-time and battled on until the 81st minute.

Dickov said of Tyson, “Nathan was the same, he made a run in the first half and got his foot caught and just jagged his knee so we will have to see how he is.”

The attacking pair are now doubtful for Saturday’s clash with 7th-placed Rochdale.

On the performance Dickov expressed his encouragement at the team’s display and his hopes of sneaking into the play-offs are still alive, ‘you just don’t know in this league, if we perform like we did at Bramall Lane for the rest of the season, which we have to, then we are still in there with an outside chance but it is going to be difficult.”
