Neil Warnock keen on adding to Boro’s defence, but not Danny Rose

Neil Warnock remains intent on signing a left-back to Middlesbrough’s squad before tomorrow’s EFL transfer deadline, but Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose will not be they move for.

Reports have linked the Championship club with the former England international, who spent time on loan at Newcastle United last season after falling out of favour in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Rose, who turned 30 in July, has one year left on his contract at Spurs and has made clear his intention to see out the remainder of that time in north London.

Speaking last November, Rose said: “I’m telling you right now that I’m not going anywhere until my contract is finished.

“Daniel Levy told me in the summer there was no new contract for me at Tottenham, which is fine. I respect that. We move on.

“My contract is up in 18 months’ time and I’ll leave the football club then.

“People [in the media] can save their time – trying to get stuff ready for January about me being sold. Because I can tell you now: it ain’t happening. I know what people were trying to do in the summer. There were no bids – that was rubbish.”

Having already signed five new players in Marcus Bettinelli, Grant Hall, Sam Morsy, Patrick Roberts and Chuba Akpom, Boro boss Warnock is acting more frugal towards budget use and is instead looking to bring in a loan signing.

Talks have been held with Chelsea over Ghana international Baba Rahman.

Since arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2015, Rahman has made a mere 15 first-team appearances and spent time on loan at Schalke, Reims and Mallorca.
