It’s shaping up to be a thrilling battle between four teams for the final two Championship play-off spots, with Derby, who took another big step with last night’s 1-0 victory away at Portsmouth, taking them within three points of the top six, Southampton, who beat league leaders Coventry at the weekend, Wrexham, who overcame Welsh rivals Swansea 2-0, and Hull, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to a desperate West Brom side hoping to avoid the drop.

The Baggies’ victory means that there are just four points between five teams in the relegation battle, with Blackburn Rovers edging closer to survival following their last-gasp 2-1 comeback win over Millwall at the weekend.

We discuss Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder’s beratement of a “negative minority” of Blades fans, who have accused his side of looking forward to the end of the season, following their 1-1 draw with Birmingham, a game which featured a bizarre Jack Robinson handball.

In League One, Lincoln City reached 20 consecutive league games unbeaten, setting a new club record, with the Imps nearing certainty in their quest for promotion.

Second-placed Cardiff City bounced back in style with a 4-0 win away at Exeter City, who appear to be in freefall with no win in 11 league games, compounded by comments from manager Matt Taylor saying that financial uncertainty in the club is affecting players.

Stevenage have gained some momentum at the perfect time of the season, returning to the top six for the first time since December with a 1-0 victory over Wimbledon.

In League Two, Walsall manager Darren Byfield recorded a win in his first match in charge of the club, beating Crewe 3-0 at the Mornflake Stadium.

Barrow slipped into the relegation zone after a 0-0 draw against Accrington Stanley in Sam Foley’s first game as interim manager, following the sacking of Dino Maamria last Wednesday.

Finally, we discuss the strange red card in Notts County’s 3-2 defeat at home to Chesterfield, with midfielder Ollie Norburn receiving a second yellow for throwing an opponent’s boot off the pitch 19 minutes into the game.
