A look ahead to a crucial day in League Two

With one game remaining of the League Two season the only thing left to be decided is the race for promotion.

Northampton have already secured the title and could reach an incredible 99 points if they beat Portsmouth at Fratton Park tomorrow.

Below them Accrington Stanley, Oxford and Bristol Rovers are all fighting it out for the two remaining promotion places.

Both Accrington and Oxford will secure promotion if they win their games. Stanley will certainly fancy their chances at home to 19th placed Stevenage, whilst Oxford face a potentially trickier game against 10th placed Wycombe.

If either side fail to grab a victory Bristol Rovers will be waiting in the wings to pounce on a promotion place if they record a victory at home to already relegated Dagenham & Redbridge.

Accrington vs Stevenage 

John Coleman’s Accrington side gave their promotion chances a massive boost with an impressive away win at Wycombe last weekend.

Stanley have won their last three games and have not lost in 11 league matches.

Accrington started the season with very little hope of achieving promotion and Coleman deserves huge credit for the brilliant job that he has done.

He admitted in the week that this season has completely defied expectations, telling reporters “It’s the equivalent of finishing second in a Formula One race on a bike!”

Stevenage have also hit a little bit of form as the season has reached its climax and are unbeaten in their last four league games.

Darren Sarll’s side pulled off a superb 4-1 victory at Morecambe two weeks ago and they could certainly cause Accrington a few problems tomorrow.

Oxford vs Wycombe 

Oxford posses a far superior goal difference to Accrington and Bristol Rovers which could ultimately prove crucial tomorrow.

Nevertheless Michael Appleton’s side could make things far easier for themselves by securing a vital three points tomorrow.

Last weekend’s impressive 2-0 win at Carlisle was Oxford’s second victory in as many games and Appleton’s side should be high on confidence coming into tomorrow’s game.

Wycombe will not be in the play off picture this season after suffering heartbreak at Wembley last year but Gareth Ainsworth’s side have put in a number of strong performances this campaign and should give Oxford a tough game.

Thankfully for Oxford fans Wycombe seem to have gone off the boil as the season has drawn to a close and are currently without a win in their last seven league games.

Bristol Rovers vs Dagenham and Redbridge 

After winning promotion through the National League play offs last season, Darrell Clarke’s side have adapted brilliantly to life in League Two.

Bristol Rovers will have to relay on other results going their way if they are to achieve automatic promotion but whatever happens tomorrow it has been a brilliant season for The Pirates.

Clarke’s side have won four of their last six league games and emphatically beat York 4-1 last weekend.

A slight worry for Bristol Rovers could be Dagenham and Redbridge’s sudden resurgence in form.

Although John Still’s side have had their fate confirmed they have won their last two games, including a shock win away at Plymouth Argyle two weeks ago.

The Daggers are clearly enjoying playing without pressure and may spring another almighty surprise tomorrow.
