Former Fulham manager Jol quits Al Ahly after death threats

Former manager Martin Jol has quit Egyptian holders Al Ahly due to safety fears.

The Dutchman, who was a manager of both Fulham and Tottenham while in , was the subject of abuse and anger from the Al Ahly fans after they failed to reach the semi-finals of the African Champions League.

It is a tournament the Egyptian side have won a record eight times, but their defeat to ZESCO United of Zambia meant they were out, and in turn Jol recieved death threats, and supporters tried to attack the team during a training session on Tuesday.

Al Ahly said in statement: “Jol has told us he will not be able to complete his contract (which had another season and a half to run) for personal reasons.

“We have accepted that and ended the contract with him.”

Al Ahly are technically the most successful club side in world history, with 20 international titles, and Jol had helped them to a record 38th domestic league title in June.
