When Ross Stewart ruptured his Achilles playing for Sunderland in February 2023, he was probably the best pound-for-pound centre-forward in the Championship.
Fresh from a 24-goal season in League One, the Scot had recovered from a thigh injury to score 11 times in 15 games.
Flanked by the youthful exuberance of Amad Diallo and Jack Clarke, he was the brains and brawn of a formidable attacking unit that - even without him - secured a surprise sixth-place finish under Tony Mowbray.
