Luke Varney has signed a contract with Ipswich to keep him at Portman Road until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old spent the end of last season on loan with Mick McCarthy‘s side and impressed before suffering a serious achilles injury in the play-off semi final defeat to local rivals Norwich.
Varney has been doing his rehabilitation work at the club and has played a number of games for the under 21 side in recent weeks.
The Leicester-born striker has played for a host of football league clubs during his career including Crewe, Charlton. Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds. He has scored 67 goals in 324 career appearances.
Ipswich have only lost once in their last nine games and have pushed themselves into the play off places. McCarthy’s side will hope to continue their fine form against Paul Clement‘s Derby tomorrow.
