Reading have sacked manager Steve Clarke following last night’s 1-0 defeat to QPR at the Madejski Stadium
The defeat to QPR meant that Reading have now only won once in their last eight games, a run which has seen the Royals drop down to ninth place in the Championship table.
Clarke caused controversy two weeks ago by holding talks with Fulham over the vacant managerial position at the West London club.
The 52-year-old took over at Reading in December 2014 and guided the club to their first FA Cup final in 88 years and a 19th place finish in the Championship last season.
A statement on the club’s website from the Reading board read, “The club met with Steve in person earlier today and we would like to place on permanent record our thanks to him for his hard work and diligence since his appointment in December 2014.
Following Thursday night’s defeat at home to QPR, added to a recent run of poor form which has seen the team pick up just one win in the last eight Sky Bet Championship fixtures, the board feel that a change in manager is now necessary.”
Clarke’s assistant Kevin Keen has also left the club.
Under-21 team manager Martin Kuhl has been placed in caretaker charge.
