Lee Carsley has made his first signing as Brentford head coach by bringing in Chelsea youngster John Swift.
The attacking central midfielder joins on a one-month loan deal to aid the injury-hit Bees, who sacked Marinus Dijkhuizen earlier this week.
It was in his role with Brentford's development squad that Carsley spotted Swift, 20, who would open the scoring for Chelsea after 8 minutes in a 3-1 win for the Blues.
Swift, capped at Under 20 level by England, impressed Football League clubs in the 2013/14 season when Chelsea's Under 21 side won their league. Loan spells at Rotherham and Swindon shortly followed, and it was at the Robins where Swift showed his credentials scoring twice in 14 appearances.
On concluding the signing Carsley said: “John played against us for Chelsea's development squad in August and was very good.
“John is a really exciting player and it is great that Chelsea feel this is the right environment for him to develop.”
