Brentford loan Chelsea’s Swift

Lee Carsley has made his first signing as head coach by bringing in youngster John Swift.

The attacking central midfielder joins on a one-month loan deal to aid the injury-hit , who sacked Marinus Dijkhuizen earlier this week.

It was in his role with Brentford's development squad that Carsley spotted Swift, 20, who would open the scoring for Chelsea after 8 minutes in a 3-1 win for the .

Swift, capped at Under 20 level by , impressed League clubs in the 2013/14 season when Chelsea's Under 21 side won their league. Loan spells at and shortly followed, and it was at the where Swift showed his credentials scoring twice in 14 appearances.

On concluding the signing Carsley said: “John played against us for Chelsea's development squad in August and was very good.

“He has lots of energy and can play in various positions. He likes to shoot, which is something that we want in the team.

“John is a really exciting player and it is great that Chelsea feel this is the right environment for him to develop.”
