EFL rule that Derby vs Cardiff postponement was correct decision

In a statement posted on their official website today, the have announced that County's decision postpone Sunday's crucial clash with was the correct course of action.

Officials at made the decision to postpone Sunday's game claiming that heavy snowfall had made areas around the ground unsafe for spectators. The decision proved controversial with Cardiff fans suggesting that it was within Derby's interest to postpone the game due the ' current injury problems.

However, the EFL have defended the decision stating, “We remain satisfied that the decision to postpone the fixture was the correct one in the circumstances.

“From the information that has been assessed, it is clear that the decision to postpone the match was taken by the club but was reached following earlier consultation with the police, other emergency services and Derbyshire Council.

“The EFL was subsequently provided with a comprehensive report including a full risk assessment by Derby County as to the steps taken in the build-up to the decision being made.

“The safety and security of supporters attending matches has to be paramount.”

The re-arranged fixture will now be played on the 24th April.
