manager Gary has urged his players to put in a professional performance ahead of their clash with local rivals Green this weekend.

Johnson's side will travel to Nailsworth for the first meeting between the two clubs, backed by nearly 1,000 away fans in an expected sell-out crowd.

The haven't won ‘El Glosico' in three previous attempts but Johnson was glad to see Rovers achieve promotion to the EFL so that his side could have another crack at claiming local bragging rights.

“I was really pleased that they (FGR) came up and it gives us some local fixtures to look forward to in front of full houses,” Johnson told Cheltenham's website.

“It's always been a big game to me and we have always kept an eye on them and their results. You obviously hope your local rivals drop points and you pick them up.

“The supporters are very keen for us to get a result and I know the Chairman is too. We know it's a big game and we will treat it accordingly.

“You need to be professional and make sure you win it for the fans and for local bragging rights,” added Johnson.

And while the ex- boss is keen for his side to gain all three points, he admitted they must manage their emotions in what should be a spicy atmosphere at the New Lawn.

“You don't get any extra points for this game, but it obviously takes on more significance against a local rival,” he said.

“You have got to be careful that you don't get too excited and that your game goes away, with sendings off and things like that.

“I'm looking forward to the atmosphere and we have got to do well for the fans who are going to support us,” said Johnson.
