Northampton Town manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has added some experience to his ranks today with the signing of midfielder Lewis McGugan on a free, who joins until January.
The former Nottingham Forest and Watford man was last seen at Sheffield Wednesday, who he represented for three seasons in total before being released in August.
He now links up with a Cobblers side in need of inspiration, having claimed just one point from their last four league games to leave them 22nd in League One.
Hasselbaink was thrilled with the addition, telling the club's official website: “We are pleased to welcome Lewis to the squad.
“He has been training with us for the last few weeks so we have had a good look at him and we believe he will help to improve us.
“He is an attacking, creative player who can make chances for others and he offers a goal threat from midfield – which is important for us.
“Lewis has an excellent pedigree from a higher level and he is a good age with a fair amount of experience.”
The 28-year-old will go straight in to the Northampton squad for their Checkatrade Trophy clash with Peterborough United on Tuesday.
McGugan began his career with Nottingham Forest in 2006 having come through the club's academy. He would go on to make 229 appearance and score 44 goals for the club.
He joined Watford in 2013 but moved on to Hillsborough two years later, initially on loan before Wednesday made the move permanent after a successful season.
