Warnock in the frame for Sheffield Wednesday post

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed that Neil Warnock is one of a number of names on their managerial shortlist.

Wednesday sacked Dave Jones on Sunday following the club’s poor start to the Championship season, which has left them languishing in the relegation zone.

The Owls are now in search of Jones’ replacement and Mandaric says Warnock – former boss of their bitter rivals Sheffield United – in one of the names in the frame.

However, he has played down the significance of Warnock’s ties to the Blades.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mandaric said: “It doesn’t mean he will be our manager. There are four or five names and he is one of them.

“I will explain to our supporters no matter who I bring here or do not bring here is for no other reason than what is best for the club.”
