Naismith: Promotion with Pompey far better than with Rangers

Portsmouth‘s in-form striker Kal Naismith has said promotion with the south coast club would be better than when he was promoted with Scottish giants Rangers.

Naismith, 25, was part of the Rangers team that romped to the Scottish Third Division title in 2013, but thinks reaching League One with Pompey would completely eclipse that – although he knows there’s still a long way to go before that can be achieved.

Speaking to Radio Solent, the Scotsman said: “No disrespect to the teams in that league in Scotland, but it’s not as good as League Two and this would be a bigger promotion.

“I know it’s an old cliche, but’s it’s game by game,” he said. “We’ve built up momentum quickly, but you can just as quickly lose it in football.”

Pompey are currently the form side in League Two, having won five of their last six games, and despite the one defeat in that time coming away to Stevenage, Paul Cook‘s men still hold a six-point lead over the Boro who sit behind them in fourth.

Naismith has more than played his part in that run of results, and scored his third goal in as many games in the 2-0 win at Hartlepool on Saturday.

In total, the former Accrington Stanley man has nine goals this season and after being close to the exit at Fratton Park at the end of last season, Naismith’s turnaround has been an excellent one, and one he is enjoying every second of.

“I’m producing and doing what I need to do.” said Naismith. “It feels great to play for this club.”
