The Shrimps succumbed to their fifth defeat in six games on Saturday when they lost 2-1 at home to , a game in which Bentley was sent to the stands, and could only name five substitutes.

The strugglers are now just two points clear of the relegation zone, but there are problems off the field as well as on it.

Bentley said: “We’ve got problems in the squad, we’ve got problems off the field.”

The problems Bentley is alluding to could be linked to previous issues at the club, such as ‘cash flow’ problems that followed Brazilian businessman Diego Lemos buying the club at the beginning of September.

It was revealed at the beginning of November that players and staff at Morecambe had not received their October wages, and Bentley is clearly still worried about the club he has managed for over five years.

“This is the worst it has been – in my opinion the next month is going to be the biggest in the club’s history.” said Bentley.

“We’ve got that much going on and there are things that need looking at on and off the field.”
