Cardiff City have sacked Head Coach Paul Trollope after just 11 games in charge of the struggling Welsh side.

The 44-year-old, who took over as Head Coach in May when Russell Slade began his short spell as Head of Football at the Bluebirds, will leave the club immediately after his contract  was terminated.

Trollope’s assistant coach Lennie Lawrence and Performance Director Ryland Morgans have also left the club.

Despite being a coach in the Wales’ set-up, and part of their brilliant journey to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, his time in charge at Cardiff was a tough spell for Trollope.

He had been out of management for six years after leaving Bristol Rovers, and this season could only muster two wins and eight points with the Bluebirds now languishing 23rd in the Championship.

Trollope had admitted after his side’s seventh defeat of the season at Burton on Saturday that he was under pressure and said: “I’m fully aware the run’s not good enough and it’s my responsibility.

“It’s a results business and we’re at the wrong end of the league and it’s certainly not the start any of us wanted.

“We’ll come back stronger after the international break and determined to turn things around.”

However, at a Supporter’s Trust meeting on Monday, Cardiff’s chief executive Ken Choo fuelled speculation when he said Trollope had had 11 games to prove himself and his position was under ‘close review’ and the ex-Rovers man has now been relieved of his duties.

A club statement read: “We’d like to thank Paul for his efforts and wish him the very best of luck for the future.

“An announcement regarding Paul’s successor will be made in due course.”

Ryan Giggs and Neil Warnock are the early names linked with the role as the hierarchy at Cardiff search for someone to turn their season around.
