Bolton given last chance to conclude sale

High Court judge uses up last of Trotters nine lives by giving ‘third and final’ adjournment in order to complete takeover

The High Court has gifted Bolton Wanderers a ‘third and final’ adjournment to give Trevor Birch and Dean Holdsworth’s Sports Shield consortium time to conclude the change in club ownership.

Bolton are using up all nine lives in order to get the sale completed with the club itself requesting an extension on paying back the £2.2m  tax bill wanted by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

With the High Court judge granting the Trotters more time to avoid administration they released a statement shortly after leaving.

The statement read: “Bolton Wanderers can announce that the club has been granted a third and final adjournment of 14 days by the High Court at today’s hearing in respect of the winding up petition in order to allow the owner to complete a sale of the controlling interest in the club.”

“The club have received conditional approval to the transfer of ownership from the Football League.”

“The board would again like to thank all staff at the club for their loyalty and unfaltering commitment to the cause through this incredibly difficult period.”

Sports Shield have implied that all payments have been made and documents are in place in order for the takeover to be completed. But it remains another nervous two weeks to come for players, staff and fans.

Wanderers are due back in court on Monday 21 March where a sale will need to be confirmed or risk the selling off of assets worth £2.2m and a points deduction.
