IN JANUARY 2003, my Ryman Premier League team at Farnborough Town knocked League Two’s Darlington out of the FA Cup to earn a home tie with the Double winners from Arsenal.
For a number of reasons, we played that tie at Highbury and not at Cherrywood Road. Those reasons included strong advice from the fire, police and safety authorities after a section of the ground had collapsed under the weight of a previous ‘large’ crowd. The reasons also included insurance pressures from Arsenal.
