As jobs go, Simon Rusk’s role with England at the 2022 World Cup wasn’t exactly the toughest of gigs.

“I had to follow Group C, which was the one with Argentina in it,” says the 44-year-old, who’d joined the FA as England Under-19s manager just a month earlier.
“If anyone from that group had ended up playing England - which was potentially Argentina in the final -my job was to hand over the dossier which told Gareth Southgate how to try and beat them.
“Just flying out there and being part of the England set-up was an unbelievable experience. But to watch the eventual champions in every game...
