Burke Becomes Scotland’s Most Expensive Player

With transfer fees in the football league growing all the time, it is little surprise that Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke has become the most expensive Scottish player ever, with the 19-year-old sealing a move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for a fee in the region of £13m. Burke has now signed a five-year contract with the German side just days after scoring in Forest’s 3-1 victory over Leeds United at the weekend. Having only made his senior debut in 2014, Burke has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest names, with Bayern and Manchester United previously linked with the talented winger.

Forest Manager Philippe Montanier will undoubtedly be disappointed to lose the services of Burke given his start to the Championship campaign, however the significant incoming funds should certainly help to rejuvenate the playing squad before the transfer deadline. Forest are among the outsiders for promotion this season, as seen at Betser Betting, however their three wins from their opening five fixtures demonstrate their potential in such a fiercely competitive league.

Such a transfer is certain to have a ripple effect throughout the division, with a number of Premier League clubs sniffing around to gain the services of some of the Championships best players. Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia is the latest in a long line of players to be linked with a move to Premier League side Hull City, with a reported fee of £14 million surely too good for Lee Johnson and the board at Ashton Gate to turn down. The Premier League newcomers are also reportedly interested in a move for Derby Country midfielder Jeff Hendrick, who would also demand a heavy fee.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez have certainly been busy over the past few days in the transfer market, with no less than eleven new players arriving at St James’ Park over the summer. With Chelsea winger Christian Atsu set to become the latest arrival, Newcastle are understandably the favourites for promotion with Betser Betting. Despite the Ghanaian’s arrival on Tyneside appearing to be a formality, Benitez has also looked into the possibility of signing West Brom midfielder Callum McManaman.

With the transfer of Ross McCormack from Fulham to Aston Villa currently the biggest deal of the window to date, it would be of little surprise to see this figure topped in the final days of the transfer window, with clubs desperate to give themselves the best opportunity of achieving their aspirations this season.

It is certainly set to be a busy period for clubs throughout the division, with managers sweating on keeping hold of their most prized assets. The likes of Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday may all be in the market for players given their poor starts to the campaign.
