QPR complete first signing of the summer

Legia Warsaw midfielder Ariel Borysiuk signs for around £800,000 and vows to offer ‘100 per cent’ effort

QPR have signed Legia Warsaw midfielder Ariel Borysiuk for an undisclosed fee.

The Polish international has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal to become Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s first signing of the summer, with the Dutchman lauding the former Kaiserslautern and Lechia Gdansk player.

“I am delighted we’ve signed him, because he is a player I really wanted to bring to this football club,” Hasselbaink said of the defensive midfielder, who joins for a reported £800,000.

“I believe Ariel’s game is built for English football. He likes to get stuck in and stamp his authority on games. He’s young, committed and plays with great passion.

“Most of his good work goes unnoticed, but when he’s not playing, you miss him – and that’s a good quality for a defensive-minded midfield player.”

Hasselbaink added: “The fact he chose us, when he had a number of good options elsewhere, shows me what he is all about.

Borysiuk has been sparsely used by the Poland national team but has won 10 caps, winning his first as an 18-year-old. He explained to QPR’s official website that he has been his ‘dream’ to play in England.

“I am very delighted to join QPR,” he said. “This is a great club with a big tradition.

“I had some options but when I was young I dreamed about playing in England and when there was an option with QPR, I didn’t need much time to think about it. This is a great step forward for me.

“I am a player who gives 100 per-cent in every game. I think English fans like players like this.

“I am a big fan of English football. I just can’t wait to join up with the team, the manager and all his staff. I can’t wait to start.”

Rangers open their pre-season schedule against Aldershot Town on 1 July and will play their first competitive match of 2016/17 at home to Leeds United on 7 August.
