Alan McCormack signs contract extension at Brentford

Brentford’s Alan McCormack has triggered a clause in his contract allowing him to stay at Griffin Park for another season.

The 32-year-old joined Brentford in 2013 and made an instant impact with the club’s faithful, winning the Supporters Player of the Year award as the Bees won promotion to the Championship in McCormack’s first season.

The Irishman has made 25 Championship appearances for Brentford this season and is closing in on his 100th game for the club.

The midfielder began his career at Preston North End before joining Southend in 2007, where he went on to make 140 appearances.

After a short spell with Charlton Athletic McCormack moved to Swindon in 2011 who were in League Two at the time.

During his two years with the Robins McCormack helped the club win promotion from League Two and make it to the League One play off final.

Although the play-offs are now unreachable for Brentford, the Bees will be hoping to end the season on a high. They earned an impressive victory over Cardiff last night and face a trip to MK Dons on Saturday.
