TONDA’S BELIEF IN BANNED DOWNES

SOUTHAMPTON boss Tonda Eckert had defended Flynn Downes after the midfielder was handed a three-match ban for violent conduct.
Downes, 27, collided with striker Liam Cullen during Saints’ 2-1 win over Swansea last week.
Match referee Ollie Langford awarded a free-kick and took no further action, but the incident was referred to a disciplinary panel after video footage appeared to show Downes throwing an elbow into Cullen’s face.
