Championship managers have given a cautious welcome to the news that the division’s play-offs are going to be expanded to six teams.

At a general meeting on Thursday, EFL clubs voted in favour of the change. As a result, this will come into effect next season, 2026-27.
Clubs that finish third and fourth will progress directly to the semi-finals, while one-leg eliminators will be played with fifth at home to eighth and sixth hosting seventh.
The semi-finals will, as now, be played over two legs with the final at Wembley.
