Bolton to narrow down takeover choice to one by Saturday

Birch set to whittle down choice for takeover, with a Lebanese billionaire, BWFC Supporters’ Trust, and Sport Shield consortium the main actors

Wanderers are set to determine their preferred bidder to takeover the club, according to local sources.

Three parties have communicated their interest in a buyout of the Trotters , who face debts of £172.9m. Billionaire banker Roger Tamraz, Supporters’ Trust, and a consortium represented by former player Dean Holdsworth are understood to be the contenders being mulled by club administrator Trevor Birch.

Negotiations are set to be fast-tracked with the club’s winding-up court case set to be determined next Monday over an unpaid £3m tax bill.

Current owner Eddie Davies has withdrawn funding the club’s operations, with Birch hired in mid-November to oversee the sale of the club. Yet with the impending liquidation of club assets talks seem to have found no traction, with Dean Holdsworth’s Shield consortium threatening to pull out of talks last month.

BBC Radio Manchester have suggested that Birch is set to elect his choice for takeover before Saturday’s match with .
