Fraeye leaves Charlton after heavy defeat to Huddersfield

5-0 defeat to Huddersfield spells the end for the Belgian’s three-month tenure

have parted company with interim head coach Karel Fraeye following Tuesday night’s 5-0 hammering at .

Fraeye’s fate was sealed as the ‘ extended their winless run to 10 games, with a performance so poor that captain Johnnie Jackson – on behalf of the players – proposed to reimburse fans who had travelled north to the game.

A statement read: “Charlton Athletic have relieved Karel Fraeye of his duties as Interim head coach.

“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Karel for his tireless work and the many positive contributions he made to the wider setup at Charlton.”

Prior to the announcement that Fraeye had left the club, surfaced on claiming that Charlton owner was set to appoint the manager of Hungarian side Ujpest – Nebojša Vignjević – and dismiss Fraeye.

An appointment of the Ujpest head coach would have continued the trend of Duchatelet hiring managers from within the circle of football clubs that he owns, just as he did with Jose Riga from Standard Liege.

But in a further twist Charlton have played down the talk of Vignjević insisting their ‘search for a new Head Coach has commenced’.

First-team coach Wim de Corte, assisted by Jason Euell, will take charge of the Charlton team for the match against City on Saturday.
