Huddersfield appoint Wagner as new boss

Huddersfield have moved quickly to replace Chris Powell by bringing in David Wagner as their new manager.

The 44-year old worked with Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund where he coached the club’s reserve side, helping them to reach promotion to the third tier of German football in 2012.

After the former United States international left Dortmund at the start of the month their had been rumors linking him with a reunion with Klopp, however Wagner has chosen to relocate to Yorkshire instead.

In a statement on the club’s website Terrier’s chairman Dean Hoyle said, “David’s football philosophy is directly in line with ours; he fits for what we need

“It is a new departure for us. He will be head coach; he is the club’s first from outside the UK and Ireland and he brings a new approach and new ideas.

“In his own words, and as we hope will be seen in practice, his playing style echoes the one that has brought Borussia Dortmund such success over the last five years.”

Wagner will watch from the stands on Saturday as academy manager Mark Lillis will take charge of the game against Leeds before the American takes charge on Monday.
