Johnny Russell signs new deal with Derby County

Johnny Russell has committed his future to the Rams by signing a new contract that will keep him at the iPro stadium until 2018.

The 25-year-old Scotland international joined Derby in 2013 and has scored 19 times for the club. His fine form earned him a call-up to Gordon Strachan’s squad and he made his full debut against England in 2014.

Since then the forward has continued to be an ever-present and popular member of the Championship side’s squad.

He was a key member of the side that made it to the Play-Off final in 2014 and has now added a further two international caps to his CV.

His form has not dipped this season and he has scored two equalisers for the club against Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

Derby County’s head coach, Paul Clement said: ““Johnny continually shows a willingness to learn and improve, which is always pleasing to see.

“Johnny is a popular member of the dressing room and he’s also someone that the fans regard very highly, so it’s pleasing to see him commit his future by signing the contract we put to him.”

Derby host Burnley on Monday night and are looking for a third successive victory after what was a difficult start for the promotion hopefuls.
