PERHAPS unsurprisingly for a man with a legendary long throw, Dave Challinor has always prized substance over style.
Over 839 games in charge of Colwyn Bay, AFC Fylde, Hartlepool and Stockport, the former Tranmere defender boasts a career win ratio of 53 per cent - the same as Arsene Wenger and just slightly shy of the great Sir Alex Ferguson.
Along the way, Challinor has earned eight promotions, one FA Trophy and four Manager of the Year awards.
Little wonder, then, that he watched with bemusement as a cultural shift towards philosophy...
