Black Cats maul Lions!

Second tier resumes

The Championship roared back into action after a three-week World Cup break as Sunderland sent the Lions of Millwall packing.

Dazzling winger Amad Diallo bagged the opener before Alex Pritchard and Ellis Simms also struck as the Black Cats cut loose in the second half to run out 3-0 winners.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, whose side climbed to tenth, hailed Manchester United loanee Diallo, 20.

“Truth is, I’m having to sit Patrick Roberts – who I think is the most talented player in the Championship – down in my office and explain to him why he’s not playing,” he said.

“And the reason he’s not playing is that Amad gets goals, gets assists – he’s on fire. We’re delighted with him.”
