Salford City Football Club announced the appointment of Gavin Fleig on Monday as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1.
Fleig joins from City Football Group at a pivotal moment in the club’s journey, bringing a bold vision and proven leadership that will propel Salford to new heights on and off the pitch.
Fleig’s appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the club and is a clear signal of the new ownership group’s intent to bring in the best-in-class to the Ammies.
He will be responsible for leading the strategic, operational, and commercial direction of the club, with a clear focus on delivering competitive football success, driving promotion up the ranks of English football, and establishing sustainable commercialisation models for future growth.
Untapped potential
His selection came following an extensive interview process with club co-chairs and ownership group members, differentiating himself through his long-term vision for Salford.
New SCFC Chief Executive Fleig said: “I couldn’t be more excited to join Salford City FC at such an important moment.
“This Club is entering a new chapter with clear determination and huge untapped potential.
“We want to build a club that competes fearlessly, first and foremost on the pitch, and extending throughout our business and community efforts to grow in the right way, with our dedicated fanbase at the heart of everything we do.”
SCFC Co-Chairs Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies added: “We are thrilled to welcome Gavin Fleig to Salford City Football Club.
“His proven record of leadership, player development, and shared commitment to success perfectly aligns with our vision for the club.
“His commitment to driving both competitive football and commercial sustainability will be instrumental as we push towards the next level of growth for SCFC.”
Bold vision
Co-owner Gary Neville said: “Gavin has all the qualities we’ve been looking for – strategic, passionate, and forward-thinking.
“His belief in the Club’s potential aligns perfectly with our own bold vision.
“We have significant ambitions at Salford City, and with Gavin at the helm, we’re confident we can deliver on them.”
Fleig joins the club with over two decades working across talent strategy, multi-club operations and long-term football planning at the highest levels of the game.
As a first-rate football operator, he’s worked at the highest levels of City Football Group, overseeing talent management and development across their global network of football teams.
Forward-thinking
His career also includes significant leadership roles at some of England‘s top clubs, where he oversaw global scouting networks, developed cutting-edge data-driven recruitment processes, and refined alignment between academy and first-team pathways.
Having lived in the Manchester area for over 17 years while also operating across five continents, Fleig combines deep local knowledge with a global perspective of the football landscape.
His forward-thinking approach and collaborative style have created environments where players, staff, and clubs thrive together, which he now brings to Salford.
With Fleig’s appointment, Jonathan Jackson will revert back to his role as Chief Finance Officer.
